Homework

Task 1: Survey secondary sources

Revisit one of the topics you researched in previous weeks. Use your internet search skills to identify news stories that cover your areas of interest. Identify a gap in the journalism landscape that you could potentially fill with an analysis of your own.

Task 2: Expand your primary documents

Identify at least one companion dataset or document that could help supplement or cross-check the dataset you analyzed in previous weeks.

Task 3: Map out human sources

Make a short list of people you could contact to learn more about your primary dataset. They could be the people who created the dataset, experts on the dataset or people who appear in the dataset.

Task 4: Make contact

Reach out and attempt to conduct an interview with at least one of your human sources to learn more about the dataset.

Task 5: Prepare to present

Next week, everyone will be asked to verbally share what they learned by peeling back the onion and working from the outside in.
