Introducing a new Reuters internship at CUNY

By

Today Reuters is announcing a new partnership with the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.

Beginning in the summer of 2024 there will be a set-aside slot for a student from The City University of New York to intern with the Reuters News Applications Desk in NYC.

The News Applications Desk is an editorial team focused on creating dynamic dashboards, interactive databases and automated insights that benefit clients, inform readers, empower reporters and serve the public interest.

The intern will have the opportunity to develop software systems that gather, refine, enrich and publish data for a global audience.

That work could include:

  • A collection of charts, maps and tables that presents a comprehensive, real-time view of a single topic.
  • A tailored website that allows readers to explore a newsworthy database.
  • A data pipeline that monitors data feeds, discovers tips and fills templates.

Interns will find opportunities to partner with Reuters editors and reporters worldwide. That will include working with members of the newsroom’s other data journalism groups, such as its award-winning analysis team and its globe-spanning graphics desk.

This work requires blending skills from journalism, computer programming and product design. Ideal participants bring interest in more than one of those areas. The strongest applicants will be able to demonstrate experience creating data-driven applications for the public.

The application deadline is next month. Learn more in our posting.
