I'm pleased to announce a new course I'll be leading this fall at the School of Visual Arts. It's called "Truth-Telling 101: Artists Meet Data Journalism."

Designed for artists, academics, and advocates working outside the news industry, the six-week class offers a hands-on introduction to how New York's leading newsrooms turn raw data into attention-grabbing stories.
As part of SVA's continuing education program, the course is open to anyone. For just $360, you'll learn how reporters blend statistical analysis and data visualization with the time-tested techniques of reporting and storytelling.
You'll join me at the school's Manhattan campus for six night classes and work through the full arc of a data-driven story: identifying questions worth asking, locating data that can provide the answers, preparing it for rigorous analysis, and then interrogating it to extract meaningful findings.
And you'll get to meet and engage with some of the city's top data journalists, including Caitlin Ostroff of The Wall Street Journal, Haidee Chu of The City Reporter and Bianca Pallaro of The New York Times.
